IH Series Chemical Pump Overview

The IH series is a single-stage, single-suction cantilevered chemical centrifugal pump whose model designations, rated performance points and dimensions follow ISO 2858-1975 (E). It is published for corrosive, particle-free liquids whose viscosity is similar to water, and it delivers flow from 6.3 to 400 m³/h with heads from 5 to 125 m.

Medium temperature is published as typically below 80 °C; if a higher temperature has to be pumped, the manufacturer states that appropriate cooling measures are required first. Because the casing is rear-opening, the rotating assembly can be inspected after removing only the connecting component in the centre of the coupling, without dismantling the pump body, the piping or the motor.

Corrosion-resistant construction, a hydraulic design that is published as averaging about 5 percent higher efficiency than comparable traditional models, and a choice between packing and mechanical shaft sealing make the pump suitable for chemical, petroleum, power-engineering, metallurgical, paper, pharmaceutical and food duties.

Typical Applications of the IH Series
  • Chemical plants: Handles dilute acids, alkalis and process solutions that are free of solid particles.
  • Pharmaceutical production: Circulates process liquids where corrosion-resistant stainless contact is required.
  • Petroleum and petrochemical: Moves chemical process fluids whose viscosity is close to that of water.
  • Power engineering: Serves as an auxiliary transfer pump on power-plant circuits.
  • Metallurgical plants: Transfers corrosive process liquids in metallurgical operations.
  • Paper mills: Pumps process water and chemical liquors that carry no solids.
  • Food processing: Transfers food-grade liquids compatible with the wetted material.
IH Chemical Pump Selection Notes
  1. Work from the duty point rather than the maximum: the published envelope is 6.3–400 m³/h at heads between 5 and 125 m, so one size normally covers several duties through impeller trim.
  2. Keep the medium below the published 80 °C limit. If the process runs hotter, ask for the cooling measures the manufacturer specifies before ordering.
  3. Confirm the liquid is free of solid particles and has a water-like viscosity; the series is not published for abrasive or highly viscous media.
  4. Choose packing or mechanical sealing from the acceptable leakage at the shaft and from the risk that the liquid crystallises or sets.
  5. Check the ISO 2858 footprint and port orientation against the available baseplate space, since the standard fixes the dimensions.
  6. State the motor supply and whether the pump runs continuously or intermittently, so the motor rating matches the absorbed power.
FAQ

What flow and head should I specify for an IH pump?

Give the duty point, not the range limits. Send the required flow, the required head and the static lift, and the IH size is then chosen from the published 6.3–400 m³/h and 5–125 m band; a smaller impeller trim usually meets a lower head with lower absorbed power.

Should I order a packing seal or a mechanical seal?

A mechanical seal is the normal choice when leakage at the shaft has to stay low. A packing seal is selected where a small controlled leakage is acceptable and where the packing is easier to service in the plant.

Can the IH pump run on liquids containing solids?

No. The IH series is published for corrosive, particle-free liquids with a viscosity similar to water. For solids, fibres or high viscosity, an IHF-lined pump or a screw pump is the appropriate family.

Is a higher temperature possible?

The series is published for media typically below 80 °C. Higher medium temperatures can be considered only after the appropriate cooling measures are fitted, which the manufacturer states as a condition.

What flow and head does the IH chemical pump cover?

The published envelope is 6.3–400 m³/h of flow and 5–125 m of head, covered by 29 published size designations in the IH model table.

What is the maximum medium temperature?

The series is published for corrosive liquids at temperatures typically below 80 °C. A higher temperature requires suitable cooling measures to be implemented first.

Which materials are used in the IH chemical pump?

The wetted parts are stainless steel in SS304 or SS316L, and the model designations, rated performance points and dimensions follow ISO 2858-1975 (E).

What shaft seal options are available?

Both a packing seal and a mechanical seal are published for the IH series; the choice is made from the pumped medium and the acceptable leakage at the shaft.

Does the IH pump need to be removed from the pipework for maintenance?

No. The casing is rear-opening, so after the connecting component in the centre of the coupling is removed the rotating parts can be serviced without dismantling the pump body, the piping or the motor.

How to Select the Right IH Chemical Pump

Quick answer: Chemical pumps are selected from liquid corrosivity, material, flow and head. The IH series uses SS304 or SS316L with a mechanical seal.

1. Define the dutyConfirm flow, pressure/head, temperature and operating schedule.
2. Check the mediumMatch viscosity, specific gravity, corrosion, gas composition or solids to materials and sealing.
3. Confirm the siteCheck power supply, installation, ambient conditions and auxiliary utilities before final selection.
